Glasses
are pretty hot.
"Geek chic"
refers to the embracing of stereotypically unpopular "geek"
characteristics such as (taped) glasses, comic books,
and video games.
Geek chic tends to be marketed at geeks themselves. It
is therefore largely irrelevant whether this trend actually
means that geeks are more popular among non-geeks than
they were previously.
The geek chic fashion borrows little from the stereotypical
non-geek stereotype of the "geek" as having
poor fashion sense: this is not the image geeks have of
themselves as skilled and insightful. Instead, much of
the geek chic image borrows from overlapping subcultures,
such as emo, goth, hippie, and bohemian amongst others... |
